Non-Laboratory Interventions /Procedures

Name:Non-Laboratory Interventions /Procedures
Type:Model View
Definition:The descriptions of specific non-laboratory interventions and procedures performed and delivered. Interventions represent the purposeful activities performed in the provision of health care. Procedures are concepts that represent the purposeful activities performed in the provision of health care. This includes the sub-domains of procedure by site (on body system, on body part, on organ), procedure b method, procedure by intent (therapeutic, preventive, palliative, diagnostic, monitoring, surveillance, screening), procedure by focus, regime and therapy, and procedure by device. A usability gap noted was: The timeliness by which emerging procedures become standard health care needs to be incorporated in the updating of SNOMED CT. At present, a map to Current Procedural Terminology (CPT-4) does not exist. The CHI workgroup recognized the importance of mappings to be maintained between SNOMED CT, CPT, and ICD-10-PCS via the UMLS. NOTE: The content for this domain will be maintained in Unified Medical Language System (UMLS), which can be accessed or downloaded from the National Library of Medicine (NLM) site http://www.nlm.nih.gov/research/umls/.
