Definition:The terminology that is used to identify, classify, and name the delivery of nursing care. Sub-domains are derived from the Nursing Process and ANA recognized Nursing Minimum Data Set (NMDS), emphasizing nursing assessment, diagnosis, interventions, and outcomes of nursing care. This includes the sub-domains of assessment and observations, plan and goals, diagnosis, interventions, and evaluation and outcome. A usability gap noted was: Although SNOMED CT provides the most comprehensive coverage of nursing domain concepts, no terminology is complete and continued collaboration of SNOMED CT and nursing terminology developers is essential. Additionally, the hierarchies within SNOMED CT that contain nursing content must be evaluated to ensure the appropriate classification of nursing concepts. NOTE: The content for this domain will be maintained in Unified Medical Language System (UMLS), which can be accessed or downloaded from the National Library of Medicine (NLM) site http://www.nlm.nih.gov/research/umls/.
