Glossary

USHIK provides glossaries which define common terms used throughout USHIK. If you have additional questions, you are encouraged to contact the USHIK team by using the feedback form at the bottom of each page.

Data Elements

Selecting Data Elements from the menu opens the Data Element Search screen. On this screen the user has the option of selecting an advanced search or the starting letter of a data element.

The resulting list of data elements will be displayed on the Data Elements screen which provides the user a list of data elements. The names of the data elements are "hot" allowing the user to jump to a page of detailed information. The Matrix check box provides the capability to compare or group for download several data elements. Also displayed on the page are the Registration Authority identifying number, the Registry ID and version for the Data Element and its type and status. Up to 20 data elements can be displayed on a given page. If more than 20 elements were returned by the search request, a button will appear which provides navigation to the next or previous page of data elements.

Selecting a data element from the "hot" list directs the user to the Data Element Detail screen where the details about the data element will be displayed. Available here are:
  • Identifying and Definitional Attributes
  • Relational and Representational Attributes
  • Administrative Attributes
  • Data Element Links
  • Information Model Entities linked to this Data Element
  • Computer Aided System Engineering (CASE) Model linked to this Data Element
  • Data Agreements which include this Data Element
  • Data Collections which include this Data Element
  • Initiatives known to reference this Data Element
  • Keywords relating to this Data Element
  • The ability to download the metadata defining this data element

Data Element Concepts

USHIK offers the ability to register and display concepts and the linking of concepts to other items. The Data Element Concept menu item returns a list of those Concepts loaded into USHIK as well as the items related to those concepts.

Value Domains

The Value Domains menu item returns a list of those Value Domains and Value Sets currently loaded into USHIK. Clicking on any given Value Domain will display the metadata for that Value Domain, along with an enumeration of Permissible Values where they are supplied.

Constraints

USHIK offers Constraints as an extension to the ISO / IEC 11179 metadata standard. Constraints can be reviewed through the link in the USHIK menu.

Functional Groups

USHIK offers the ability to create groups of Data Elements and other items for specific uses. These Functional Groups, which include Forms, Transactions, Measures, Collections, Initiatives, etc., can be reviewed through the Functional Groups link in the USHIK menu.

Conceptual Domains

The Value Domains menu item returns a list of those Conceptual Domains currently loaded into USHIK. Clicking on any given Conceptual Domain will display the metadata for that Conceptual Domain, along with an enumeration of Value Meanings where they are supplied.

Contexts

Contexts are descriptors used to identify an upper level grouping of related items. The Context is a subjectively relational grouping, not necessarily a physical one. Typically, a Context is used when identifying administered items related at the time of their loading into the USHIK application. The Contexts menu item returns a list of those Contexts currently used within USHIK. Clicking on any given Context will return a screen describing that context as well as displaying a list of items related to that given Context.

Vocabularies

The Value Domains menu item returns a list of those Vocabularies currently loaded into USHIK. Clicking on any given Vocabulary will display the metadata for that Vocabulary.

Representational Classes

The Value Domains menu item returns a list of those Representational Classes currently used by USHIK. Clicking on any given Representational Class will display the metadata for that Representational Class as well as links to those items which are described by that given Representational Class.

Measures

USHIK Contains several methods to represent the metadata of various types of measures- Clinical Quality measures, Meaningful Use measures, etc. Users can use these tools to view the measures' logic, constituent components (Data Elements, Derived Data Elements, Value Domains, Constraints, etc.), and compare the metadata of various measures side-by-side.

Informational Models

The Information Models Screen provides the user with links to graphics of each major system stored in the registry. From this graphic the user can click to select (filter) the information to be viewed, grouped by the concept described on the image. The result of this selection will be a screen showing any sub models, links data elements composing this model, and related initiatives. (Continuing selection of sub models produces the same screen with the sub model as the major item.) Selecting a data element or initiative will produce the screens as if the user had selected those menu items and selected through an advanced search.

Organizations

Selecting Organizations from the menu opens the Organizations Search screen. On this screen the user has the option of selecting an advanced search or the starting letter of an organization.

The resulting list of organizations will be displayed on the Organizations screen which provides the user a list of organizations (if more than 20 Organizations were returned by the search request, a button will appear which provides navigation to the next or previous page of organizations. The names of the organizations are "hot" allowing the user to jump to a page of detailed information.

Selecting an organization from the "hot" list directs the user to the Organizations Detail screen where the details about the organization will be displayed. Available here are:
  • Data Agreements
  • Data Collections
  • Data Element Links, grouped by starting letter, with a record count for each group
  • Contact Information
  • Organizations Web Site (if available)


Selecting one of the Data Element links will bring up a list of data elements. Please see Data Elements for more details.

Data Agreements

Selecting Data Agreements from the menu opens the Data Agreements Search screen. On this screen the user has the option of selecting an advanced search or the starting letter of a data Agreement.

The resulting list of data agreements will be displayed on the Data Agreements screen which provides the user a list of data agreements (if more than 20 Agreements were returned by the search request, a button will appear which provides navigation to the next or previous page of data agreements. The names of the data agreements are "hot" allowing the user to jump to a page of detailed information.

Selecting a data agreement from the "hot" list directs the user to the Data Agreement Detail screen where the details about the data agreement will be displayed. Available here are:
  • Start Date
  • End Date
  • Scope of the agreement
  • Data Element Links, grouped by starting letter, with a record count for each group

Data Collections

Selecting Data Collections from the menu opens the Data Collections Search screen. On this screen the user has the option of selecting an advanced search or the starting letter of a data collection.

The resulting list of data collections will be displayed on the Data Collections screen which provides the user a list of data collections (if more than 20 Collections were returned by the search request, a button will appear which provides navigation to the next or previous page of data collections. The names of the data collections are "hot" allowing the user to jump to a page of detailed information.

Initiatives

Selecting Initiatives from the menu opens the Initiatives Search screen. On this screen the user has the option of selecting an advanced search or the starting letter of an initiative.

The resulting list of initiatives will be displayed on the Initiatives screen which provides the user a list of initiatives (if more than 20 Initiatives were returned by the search request, a button will appear which provides navigation to the next or previous page of initiatives. The names of the initiatives are "hot" allowing the user to jump to a page of detailed information.

Selecting an initiative from the "hot" list directs the user to the Data Initiative Detail screen where the details about the data initiative will be displayed. Available here are:
  • Description
  • Contact Information
  • Data Element Links, grouped by starting letter, with a record count for each group

The What's New in USHIK link provides information about new features and changes in the USHIK application, such as recent data loads and improved functionality. Users are encouraged to subscribe to the USHIK update mailing list to be kept up-to-date with updates to USHIK.
